10-10-10 Part 1 of 6: The What and The How
March 18, 2010 by dr. lam
Suzy Welch, Jack Welch’s current wife, wrote the book 10-10-10 to help individuals including herself figure out the right decision to major life challenges or even minor ones. The concept of 10-10-10 in short is for every life decision how will that decision affect us in 10 minutes, 10 months, and in 10 years.
Obviously, the tendency is to push you to think in the future of how your action will cause long-term aggravation if chosen despite the immediate gratification or ease with making that decision. As a counterpoint, if every life decision was made in the scope of 10 years then we will have a harder time experiencing any spontaneity and life can be a bit dull. The 10-10-10 equation is simply a filter that carries more significant meaning the larger the decision is. In this short blog series we will investigate subtle ideas of the 10-10-10 principle.
N.B.: I would like to thank my patient, Dreux, for telling me about this book about a year ago. It has been sitting on my shelf for quite some time. Glad that I was finally able to read it and to share it with you all.
