The Power of Intention Part 4 of 10: Abundance

March 5, 2009 by dr. lam

abund-danceI think living in these times of perceived scarcity, this blog will have some degrees of universal relevance.  I am not necessarily the best exemplar of this, but I am working toward an intention of seeing only abundance and that God and the universe will provide everything that you need in times of difficulty.  Believe in the power of abundance and you will begin to see that you have more than enough for your needs.

When we read the newspaper (which I still do every day to keep abreast of world events), we get immersed in negativity and are controlled with the ideas of scarcity.  Today, you can’t escape the news that we don’t have enough and we are limited by those thoughts.  I truly have been blessed by all of you in that I am still booked out for 3 months and have overflowing abundance.  I feel as if all of you out there are connected with me and are connected in a fundamental way to my practice and my staff because we are all in an extended family.  I thank you for your loyalty to LFP and to me.  You are all part of my family, and I want to encourage all of you to see the abundance in the universe rather than the scarcity.

I hope that this blog serves as an antidote to the negative press out there, a small oasis and a tiny beacon to all those who have ears to hear it.  I believe that the manifesto of LFP is to seek and attain all that life was meant for you and designed for you.  Of course, for all of you that are in a perceived state of absence whether it be health or finances, look at what you have and attract abundance by focusing on it instead of what you don’t have.

Rhonda Byrne’s book, The Secret, is obviously famous for collectively putting many authors’ ideas under one cover and discussing the law of attraction and how we attract abundance or scarcity by our thoughts and intention.  I would like all of you out there to take a day (always start with an easy unit of time) and begin to see abundance in front of you, intend it deeply and attain that abundance.  Today, go out there and look for all signs of abundance.  Help another person out there who is focused on scarcity see his or her own abundance and be thankful for it!

Well, I think you most certainly ARE an exemplar of this concept. Allow me to suggest you take 60 seconds to close your eyes doc, replay the history of your life in a brief vignette. That’s a man who has always walked (in your case maybe jogged) toward abundance, and I don’t mean ’stuff’.

Very good thoughts for our day. I know this all (your words above) to be absolutely correct. Everybody please just keep your chin up, it’s all part of the journey.

Dr. Lam, It’s awesome that you are covering this book and these subjects!!! I believe 100% that we manifest what we primarily focus on (abundance, happiness, or negative things, too). Your advice to just focus each day on things we appreciate is a wonderful way to keep the abundance coming, in my opinion. (not the monetary kind necessarily). I love to look around at the flowers or the clouds or even appreciate the choices we have at our grocery store and I am filled with appreciation and gratitude. And, when I do that I am drawn to others who feel good and are happy – it’s quite amazing. While dollars and “things” are fun to have, having an abundance of good feelings in your heart and good people around you is something that a lot of people are missing in their life. THANK YOU for always sharing something that feeds our souls.

    Tracy, love your comment!

Dr. Lam, great blog post! That is wonderful that you brought this up. It is very true that how you view the world is what you get in return from. I think that the whole reason why people want things or think they need certain things, is because they are ultimately trying to achieve contentment and they feel like “things” will put them in this desired, contented state. So, if one perceives the world as abundant and that they have everything they need and the world has everything that it needs, they will reach a point of contentment, and thus in a conceptual way, will actually have accumulated all of those things that they originally wanted in the first place, by reaching the pursued end result.

A long time ago, when I was in something like fourth grade I remember reading a story in one of my schoolbooks about a king that had everything that he could ever want. Well, almost everything that he could want. The only thing he lacked was happiness. His top advisors suggested that the only way to achieve happiness was to wear the shirt of a happy man. The king was dead sent on acquiring happiness, so he immediately sent out his officers to conduct a search over his entire kingdom in search of someone that was truly happy and then the king could wear the happy man’s shirt. Finally, after searching the entire kingdom, the king’s officers came across a very small hut, in which a man was happily giving thanks. The man was very poor, but very thankful and HAPPY. The officers were thrilled that they had found the only truly happy man in the kingdom, so they went over and asked the happy man if they could have his shirt for the king, but the happy man didn’t have a shirt. Okay, the point of the story is that happiness can not be achieved with things or pursuing things. The only way someone can have true contentment is by changing his/her viewpoint of what true contentment is.

Thanks, Dr. Lam. I do have a problem with viewing the world as abundant and you have given me a reason to view it in a different light. Thank you so much!!!

“PERCEIVED scarcity” – well put, Dr. L! There is so much abundance everywhere, but we simply often don’t SEE it. Instead of counting our blessings, all we see is what is supposedly lacking in our lives. How self-destructive…

As we are talking about one of Dyer’s books, here’s another quote by him I really like. Sums the topic up in a few simple words: “Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.”
