Mindfulness Mondays 25: Healing

November 16, 2009 by

Canada-BC-HealingLightI do not believe that life throws you coincidences but truly things that were meant to be there to teach you valuable lessons.  I was in yoga with a woman whom I had not talked to for a while.  She asked me about 2 months prior how I could reconcile plastic surgery with attending yoga.  At the time it was at the very end of a yoga class, and I did not have enough time to respond.  However, today I made it a point at the beginning of class to respond in that I believe that healing of the outside and the inside were part and parcel of the same thing for me.  That is obviously not the case for many plastic surgeons who go about their life not seeing the patient in a holistic fashion.  I believe that today with the power of the Internet that I have a much broader mission which is not just to heal my patients who reside in Dallas but those who come to Dallas from great distances for me to see them.  In short, I believe that my life’s mission is to heal my patients and anyone that comes into contact with me.  These words are not driven by ego but out of love and compassion for my fellow humanity.

Interestingly, I learned that this woman works at a healing center in Dallas, and that morning I was just thinking to myself how I really wanted to help a patient with cancer with whom I had been working on healing but thought that I would falling short.  This was the answer.  However, thinking about it, we all can be healers by sharing with others who need healing our own energy of peace and love.  When we do that, we can begin the healing process in ourselves.  When we reach out to heal, we mend our own hearts and souls.  My life’s goal is to make sure that I work to heal every patient who comes to see me in mind, body, and spirit.  This week, set your intention to have an open heart and mind toward passing on healing to those around you, and your blessings will return to you in spades.

That was not very nice of that lady to ask you how you reconcile plastic surgery with yoga, but that was a great answer! Dr. Lam, even your blogs are helping and healing others even if they aren’t your patients, yet! :) Great idea to think about how we can pass on healing to others. I think though that for some of us, we have to learn how to see how others are hurting, in order to heal. I mean it takes training….compassion and seeing how someone is hurting to pass on healing to them. Just considering things here. Great blog!!!
