Mindfulness Mondays 29: Buddha’s Smile

Finishing Eckhart Tolle’s Findhorn Retreat seminar, I found a small gem of an idea buried in one of his discourses.  He talks about the ubiquitous presence of the happy, fat Buddha image that pervades China.  The smile on the Buddha is not necessarily a beaming, jovial smile (although sometimes it is portrayed as such) but a sly, gentle grin that is all knowing and that emanates from an enlightened state.  When we are glum or down or just a bit neutral gray, we can fashion a small smile on our face and see how that changes everything inside.  Do that now.  You will see that it changes every cell of your body in profound ways.  Now, offer that smile to someone else and teach them that trick.  Have a great week!

thanks nord. love the new gravatar. did you know the hand of the cat that looks like it is waving is actually supposed to mean come over here and the other hand below normally means give me money. that is at least what my Japanese instructor told me in Japan. I remember him cupping his hand like he was waving to me and I waved back. He actually meant come over here. just a weird cultural difference! glad i did not do our sign of come over here with my palm up because he probably would think i was asking for money.
