Mindfulness Mondays 37: Self Love Versus Selfishness

What is the difference between self love and selfishness?  A lot.  Selfishness, as you would expect, describes being so focused on yourself that you exclude the welfare of others.  Self love means having the respect for your own mind, body, and spirit so that you can be the best that you can be.  By loving yourself,  you can then in turn pour that love out to others.  When we are an empty vessel filled with hatred, anxiety, low energy, etc., we cannot hope to help others.  SelfLESSness begins with self love.  If we do not love ourselves and do not take care of ourselves, we will never hope to help others in any meaningful way.

These blogs are intended to help one work on self love.  We have talked about ways to develop one’s mind, spirit and body here.  When we radiate love and peace, we are well positioned to help the world.  Working on ourselves is a mandatory first step in getting to become a vessel of the Divine.

This week, ask yourself what destructive things are you doing to your mind, body, or spirit that will become obstacles in your ability to help others.  Then focus on what good things we can do to nourish our mind, body, and spirit so that we can become shining beacons to all those around us.
