Mindfulness Mondays 43: Soaring
March 22, 2010 by dr. lam
I watched the terrifying, uplifting, and bewildering documentary, Man on Wire, about Philippe Petit’s tightrope walk between the Twin Towers in New York City on August 7, 1974. It was exhilarating to see a man consumed with possibility against all common sense, against all odds, and against all advice. He walked for 45 minutes starting at 7:15 am that morning 8 times across, or should i say danced, kneeled, saluted, and lay down on the wire.
It took 6 arduous years of planning to pull it off, and his audacious “coup” as he calls it has been recognized as the “artistic crime of the century” by Time Magazine. When people tell you that you are crazy, you can’t do it, you shouldn’t do it, no one can do it, think of Philippe Petit and maybe you can just prove them all wrong. Follow your heart and follow your passion.
