Pizza, Pizza, Pizza: Grimaldi’s Comes to Dallas!

December 24, 2007 by dr. lam

Okay, I talked about bicycles in a recent vlog now I am going on about pizza????  I wish I could cover this one up by saying how this place completely specializes in quality pizza, as I do on facial plastic surgery.  Or how this guide could help my out-of-town patients (not from New York) who want to try quality pizza (and especially my in-town patients) but alas all of this is just a bit of a stretch.  I just want to talk about pizza here.  As you probably would guess, I am a foodie and I really love a quality pie, which is hard to find in Dallas.  After 6 years in New York, I have become quite the pizza snob and was totally excited to hear that my favorite pizza ever has just opened right here in Dallas on December 17, 2007.I’m enjoying a Grimaldi’<p>s pie with too many toppings!

You can see that I am really enjoying this pie. Unfortunately, in my psychosis, I ordered way too many toppings: anchovies, mushrooms, and pepperoni and could not relish the pie by itself so, of course, I had to order a plain jane one that was too die for.Straight-up Grimaldi’s pie

So what makes these pies so good? First, they are baked in a coal-laden brick oven. The coal really makes the thin crust very crispy and also uniquely tasty. The special sauce (no, not McDonald’s recipe) has a slightly sweet and tangy flavor and is made with fresh tomatoes. The mozzarella is totally fresh and comes from free range cows (okay, I don’t know if the free range thing is critical but the cheese really is good). There are also some beautiful basil leaves on the pie.

I will probably be going to the Dallas location more often than the Brooklyn one since it took like an hour to get there by subway from Manhattan. As a small piece of trivia, Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn only delivered to one guy, Frank Sinatra, when he was alive. I heard from one of the waitstaff that in order to maintain absolute authenticity, the flour AND water are shipped in from New York. Fuggedaboutit! (That is Yankee speak for “Oh, really.”) I hear they are going to open like 50 across the United States with maybe 4 to 5 in Dallas. I hope that they maintain the quality with that kind of output. To try out the ‘za, call 214-559-4611. They are located at 3636 McKinney (which really is the address for the entire shopping/residential area across the street from West Village so they are really located on the corner of Noble [I think Noble] and Cityplace West [man, I hope I got that right]). Let me know how you like it if you try it. (I don’t have any financial affiliation with the company or hold any stock in case you guys were wondering, but I should!)
